Community is at the heart of Ucluelet and Tofino’s new legal team

Lyle Carlstrom is passionate about the law, but equal to that is his belief in supporting others in his profession and the communities where he works.

Today, he’s excited to share all three values with the people and businesses of Ucluelet and Tofino.

While based in Comox, Carlstrom will be a “regular” here on the west coast, supporting lead lawyer Craig Stewart at the full-service CR Lawyers, which opened in Ucluelet Oct. 3. Providing legal services for wills and estates, business law, real estate transactions and other services – everything other than criminal law – the two are joined in the office by experienced legal assistant Belinda Mulvey.

“My job is to ensure Craig has the support where he needs it, providing guidance and sharing my 30-plus years of experience,” says Carlstrom. “Even when I’m not there in person, we’re speaking every day.”

Originally from Grande Prairie, Carlstrom was first admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1987, and later to the Law Society of British Columbia in 2o16. Over the years, he’s focused on solicitor’s work – real estate, corporate-commercial law, estate planning and estate administration – but also on teaching and volunteering.

Beyond a passion for his work, and for mentoring the next generation of lawyers, he brings a belief that legal professionals need to be involved in their community – a value he’s pleased is supported with the CR Lawyers team here on the west coast and at their offices in Comox and Campbell River.

CR Lawyers recently sponsored the Edge-to-Edge Marathon, for example, and look forward to partnering with other local organizations. And be sure to tune in to hear Carlstrom on the monthly Law Talk segment on Tuff City Radio.

Legal care, close to home

Why Ucluelet? Building relationships is key to providing quality legal care, explains Carlstrom, who with CR Lawyers partners Peter Higgs and Stewart Carstairs was keen to ensure the west coast residents and businesses have access to a full-service law office, without having to drive to Port Alberni or beyond.

“The Law Society has also encouraged its members to support underserved communities, so this is one way we’re able to do our part.”

Sharing office space with CPA Rob Anderson, at 1566 Peninsula Rd. in Ucluelet, “we’ve been very pleased with the welcome from the community,” Carlstrom says, noting that while the doors are open for walk-in visits three days a week for now, Stewart is available five days a week for the community’s legal needs.
