Give any room an instant lift this spring with one simple change

When entering a room, natural light draws our attention quicker than any piece of furniture or artwork. As a result, one of the second things we notice is the window treatments, making them an easy choice if you’re hoping to refresh the feel of your home this spring.

With no shortage of window treatment options available, the biggest dilemma is deciding which window coverings are right for your home. Cheryl Niedzieski, Sales Consultant from Island Window Coverings, shares her top four factors to consider when choosing new window coverings.

  1. Window shape: Windows in most of today’s homes share standard shapes but it’s still something to consider when looking at new window treatments, Niedzieski explains. If you have floor-to-ceiling windows, chances are you’ll want a low-profile window treatment that doesn’t detract from such a stand-out feature in your home. If you have round, bay or awning-style windows, you’ll need to factor that in as well.
  2. Function: Depending on the room , you’ll need to consider what other functions you want your new window treatments to provide. In a bedroom, you may want full black-out capabilities, for example. If you’re looking to improve your home’s energy efficiency, cellular shades are the best option currently available for climate control, Niedzieski says.
  3. Style preference: Blinds, shades, drapery or shutters? Do you want your window coverings fully motorised and running on a set schedule, or do you prefer to throw open your curtains to embrace the day? If you’re stuck on what style best suits your home, booking a complimentary in-home consultation can help! “Our design experts will go over colour, style and more with you, right from the comfort of your own home,” Niedzieski notes.
  4. Budget: With so many great options available, it’s easy to find something that complements your home’s unique style without going over budget. Traditional faux wood blinds are one of the best-priced options out there, plus they’re timeless and look fantastic in any home. Reasonably priced options are also available for cellular and roller shades. Visit the showroom to see what works for your budget and design preferences.

“Our team has a tremendous amount of experience and extensive product knowledge. We work to educate our clients on options so that they can be informed when making their decision,” Niedzieski says. “And with our complimentary in-home consultations, we can look at colours and samples, to ensure we find the right product for your home.”
