Time to have your say: Surveys underway for Fire Services, Airport master plans

The City of Wetaskiwin is currently working on master plans for the local airport and fire department, and asks the community to share feedback on both this month.

Wetaskiwin Fire Services’ Fire Master Plan Survey welcomes feedback through Monday, Sept. 25, and the Airport Master Plan Survey through Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Wetaskiwin Regional Airport Master Plan

As part of the City’s master plan process for the Wetaskiwin Regional Airport, HM Aero Aviation Consulting is exploring the future economic and development potential of the Wetaskiwin Regional Airport.

A draft report, based on industry best practices, research and feedback from key airport tenants, businesses and organizations in Phase 1 of the project, is available here. It includes current research on the airport’s role, growth opportunities and regional context, as well as preliminary investments to support the feasible and sustainable growth of the airport.

Now it’s time for the community to weigh in.

The City asks airport tenants, businesses, adjacent landowners and the public to review the draft report and provide feedback on the master plan process. The feedback will be considered by the City and consultant team and will be used to refine and finalize the Master Plan for future engagement, City Council review and approval.

Fire Master Plan

Also underway is Wetaskiwin Fire Services’ 10-year, community-driven fire master plan.

Wetaskiwin Fire Services includes both dedicated full-time and paid-on-call personnel responding from two fire stations, and the plan aims to guide operational improvements and enhance how service is provided throughout the community.

Consulting firm Emergency Management Group (EMG) is assisting with this initiative, bringing experience gained from working with many fire departments to develop their master plans, station assessments and fire service reviews.

The community is asked to complete the confidential survey by Monday, Sept. 25, to ensure the department continues to meet the diverse needs of all residents.
